The Sony FX3, a compact cinema camera, is designed with solo shooters in mind, making it perfect for travel use and as a reliable B cam. Drawing from the best of both the Cinema Line and Alpha series, the FX3 boasts all the expected imaging features of its class, but in a new, lightweight, handheld form. Its streamlined profile and unique “cage-free” design allow for the attachment of various accessories directly to the camera body, enhancing its portability and convenience.
The FX3 is equipped with a 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, which effectively delivers 10.2MP in video mode. This sensor works in conjunction with a BIONZ XR processor to provide UHD 4K video recording capabilities. It offers internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling or the option for 16-bit raw output. The sensor’s BSI structure enhances both clarity and sensitivity, offering an ISO range that can be expanded from 80 to 409,600. Additionally, it provides a dynamic range of over 15 stops.
The S-Cinetone mode, which is beneficial for color and tonal control, can be utilized to match sources from VENICE, FX9, or FX6. Additionally, the camera supports S-Log3/2 gamut and 10-bit HLG, making it suitable for straightforward HDR productions. The sensor and processor collaborate to significantly minimize rolling shutter. Furthermore, the sensor is designed with a Fast Hybrid AF system, ensuring smart, rapid focus performance and subject tracking.
